Oakleigh pupil magazine inspired by visit to rescue centre
Pupils from Oakleigh House School were so impressed with a visit to a local Horse and Pony rescue centre that they decided to produce a magazine all about its work.
Year 6 pupils from Oakleigh House School visited the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust at Llangadog to participate in a pilot scheme for school visits.
The pupils learnt all about the work of the Trust and had great fun meeting all of the animals. After the visit the children were inspired to produce a magazine focussing on the work of the Trust and the way in which they care for the welfare of the horses.
To produce the magazine the class interviewed interested candidates to choose an editor and sub-editor. Other class members worked as journalists and IT specialists.
The children worked extremely hard to produce their magazine and learned many skills throughout the process. Information Technology was used extensively in order to research themes, import pictures and word process their work.
Class teacher Mrs Garner commented “I was very impressed with the way that they worked together and the quality of the finished magazine”
Head teacher Mrs Ferriman commented, “The children were so enthused when they returned from their visit to the Horse and Pony Trust. It is great to see that enthusiasm carried on into the classroom and the excellent magazine they produced.
