Music at Oakleigh House School
Specialist Music Teachers
Music is an extremely important part of our curriculum and all pupils enjoy weekly music lessons with our specialist teachers. From Year 1 pupils may also opt to take individual lessons in Piano, Strings, Woodwind or Brass. There is a young orchestra and a thriving choir which is regularly invited to perform at events in the local community.
Musical elements
The work in class is based around the study of the various elements of music - pitch, rhythm, texture, dynamic and timbre - through a variety of practical activities including singing and instrumental work and listening tasks. Older pupils are introduced to the skills of composition and improvisation.
Music performance
All pupils have the opportunity to perform their work in class and in class assemblies. Children also have the opportunity of performing to a wider audience in special assemblies, school concerts and whole school performances.
