From Nursery through to Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to participate in a range of physical and sporting activities on site, either outside on one of the two large play areas both of which have all weather surfaces or in the school hall. Sport is developed further by the many extra-curricular activities that take place during lunch breaks and after school.
Pupils in Year 3 to 6 are taken to Swansea University Sports Centre for their weekly games lessons where they have exclusive use of the indoor track and outdoor multi-purpose pitches. They also have swimming lessons at the Wales National Pool where the pupils have access to the 25m and 50m pools. Pupils take part in netball, hockey, cricket, football, rugby, athletics and general fitness training.
The school benefits from being able to offer pupils tuition from our very experienced sports teachers and in addition we welcome specialist gymnastic, rugby and football professionals to school.
In addition, KS2 pupils also visit the following centres and receive specialist tuition in:
- Gymnastics at Swansea Gymnastics Centre
- Self Defence and Boxing at Ware-House Gym
- Tennis coaching from Swansea Tennis Centre
- Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to achieve Royal Yachting Association Level 1 Dinghy Sailing in the autumn term when they attend a weekly training course at Swansea Marina with Swansea Watersports.
Team sports are represented at all levels. The pupils regularly travel to schools across South Wales for away matches and are fortunate to play their home fixtures on our astro turf pitch.
Active Young People's Officer for Bay Area
It’s rare to see such good sportsmanship in many sports players let alone 9, 10 and 11 year olds! It is so impressive to see such young athletes work well together and be true role models to not only their peers but to teachers and myself! As a team and as individuals they are doing Oakleigh House, and you as parents, all very proud!
